I haven't posted any new news lately because I've been transitioning from life as a student to life as a real person over the last couple of months. And I have to say post-graduation life is pretty sweet! Other than the fact that I now have to label myself as an "emerging artist" instead of an art student, it's not nearly as intimidating as I thought it would be.
Here's some bits and pieces of art-related things I've been up to, sorry all I have to share for now are some low-res iphone photos!
Some handmade Christmas cards for friends done over the winter holiday (a little overdue, oops)...
And some thank-you cards for both of my grandmas...
I haven't been working in my sketchbook this year as often as I should, but it'd be a lot easier if Kitty would stop stealing my pen!
I started working as an indoor mural assistant for a small business in Baltimore called Jac Art Designs, and over the next few months we're working on a big commission for a series of kids' dental offices called Adventure Dental! We just finished up one location and are starting on the second. It's the greatest job. I'll have many more photos to share soon from the office we just finished so better documentation to come, but here are a few photos I snapped in progress.
The back hallway finished, from the first office...
This dashing dude is Captain Smiles. I should say that all these characters are trademarks of Adventure Dental...Except for this falcon (dentist's request)...
And tree frog...
We just started the second location last week, and look this hallway's already almost done!
This is the lobby from the place we're at now (much smaller than the last one). Around the playset in the middle will go a huge castle...I'm also trying to carve out studio time so that I can continue making personal work and start some new pieces. I finally unpacked my supplies a couple weekends ago and luckily we have an empty basement in our apartment that is a perfectly sized studio space. My plan is to have all new work for my thesis show in May (doable, right??). It's a little messy, but here's a preview of my makeshift studio space for the spring and some new work in progress!
Coming down the stairs into my 'studio'...
Left side of studio...
Right side of studio...Lots of things are going on, so I'm excited to share more soon!
